The aim of the national project is to create system support for the effective integration of pupils from special education into mainstream education, if they have the potential to successfully complete lower secondary education. The project focuses on the identification, testing and support of pupils with a diagnosed mild degree of mental disability, who, on the basis of professional judgements, will be allowed to transition through the completion of adaptation classes into the mainstream of education. The project aims to increase the inclusiveness of the education system by ensuring conditions for the smooth transition of these pupils from special to mainstream education. The expected benefit is not only to increase the educational level of this target group, but also to reduce the risk of their social exclusion in the long term. The project implements several activities, including mapping and testing of pupils, creation of methodological manuals, establishment and support of adaptation classes and education of vocational and pedagogical staff of schools. Thanks to a comprehensive approach, the project will support the equalisation of educational and social differences of pupils and enable their successful inclusion in mainstream education. The outputs of the national project are the training of at least 26 psychologists who will test in the field using the RR Screening method (achieved by the subactivity of project No2), at least 2500 tested pupils from the target group of the project (achieved by the subactivity of project No2) and the publication - final report (achieved by the subactivity of project No3). The project is a response to the whole-ministerial effort to gradually eliminate all manifestations of segregation in education and training in the territory of the Slovak Republic and addresses the objections of the European Commission included in the action against the Slovak Republic. After the completion of the national project, a tested or re-diagnosed secondary target group and an identified group of children and pupils with the potential to master mainstream education and achieve lower secondary education are counted. This group will go through adaptation classes that will prepare them to function in the mainstream educational process. They will then, ideally before the end of the national project, be fully reassigned to mainstream education. The sustainability of the project is ensured mainly through the permanent transfer of pupils to mainstream education, the preparation of professional methodological materials for working with these children and pupils in the environment of adaptation classes, as well as in the environment of mainstream education, the training of PZ and OZ for working with pupils with diverse needs, including pupils with mild mental disabilities in mainstream education, and the support system for PZ and OZ working in classes with diverse pupils. The methodological materials generated by the NP offer the use of the project’s experience and outputs to facilitate the inclusion of pupils with mild mental disabilities in mainstream education. The sustainability of the project is included in the prepared methodology of working with children and pupils transferred from the special education stream to the mainstream education, which will be part of the portfolio of education provided to pedagogical and professional staff. This output will be created on the basis of multidisciplinary cooperation between MŠVVaM SR, VÚDPaP and NIVAM. The project foresees that its main output is to support OE and OZ in creating an inclusive environment and in developing the potential of all pupils in an inclusive learning model. The main ambition of the NP is to contribute to the resolution of the situation regarding the inclusion of children and pupils with an incorrectly diagnosed mild degree of mental disability in a special education stream by supporting them and gradually transferring them to the mainstream education. Last but not least, the sustainability of outputs is also ensured by the creation of a final project report, which will also propose long-term solutions or recommendations for further steps in the field - whether at the legislative level, in proposals for reform steps, or proposals for other national projects.
