The Monastery of Agios Dionysios in Olympus was built in the 16th century at an altitude of about 850 m in the gorge of Enipeas and at a distance of about 17 km from Litochoro in Pieria The Monastery suffered several disasters in the years 1753 1790 1822 1877 with the most recent in the year 1943 blowing up by the occupying troops when it was destroyed to a very large extent The complex of the Monastery has total dimensions of about 50X50 m and is a typical example of monastic architecture with two- and three-storey wings of cells surrounding the courtyard in the center of which is the Catholicon of the Monastery.
