The Holy Monastery of Panagia Odigitria in the village of Apolpena in the southwest of the city of Lefkada is originally built in the 11th century and is the oldest dated Christian ensemble in Lefkada declared as a historical listed monument The building complex is enclosed by a precinct that includes the Katholikon and 4 other buildings For the construction of the Katholikon has been used sporadically older material in a second use Most of the frescoes of the Katholikon dating to the middle of the 15th century are now housed in the permanent exhibition of the Byzantine and Christian Museum in Athens The monument is earthquake-stricken and inaccessible to the public since 1969In the context of this project, it is foreseen to fix and restore the Katholikon of the Holy Monastery In particular, the roof will be restored, the frames the pews will be installed, the wall paintings will be fixed, new coatings will be implemented, new electrical installation new railings At the same time, works will be carried out for the enhancement and functional upgrading of the monastery complex, such as the configuration of access for pedestrians and people with disabilities, the restoration and completion of the precinct and the enhancement of the fortress character of the monastery, the installation of electrical installations and lighting in the interior and exterior of the monastery.
