The Holy Monastery of Prophet Elias is located in a wooded mountainous area northeast of the village Zacholi of the Municipality of Evrostini in Corinthia and its initial foundation is probable according to a Sultan's firman of 1714 before 1453 In the 17th century the monastery was renovated and in the mid-18th century the Katholikon was reconstructed in the form that survives today In July 2000 the monastery suffered significant damage from the fires that hit Corinthia and ceased to function The gradual restoration and reopening began in 2015 with the completion of the work of mounting and restoring the north and part of the west cell wing of the I Monastery The proposed project concerns the restoration of the south and part of the west cell wing and includes works for the strengthening and fixing of the walls and the morphological restoration of the cell wings in order to render the original functional form and organization With the proposed project will be attributed both to the residents of the area and to the visitors the entire monastery complex restored and fully functional and safe so that the I Monastery of Zacholis meets its values as a historical listed monument and as a destination of religious tourism
