The church of Agios Nikolaos is located in the center of the city of Nafplio and is declared as a historical listed monument The initial phase of the church that concerns the foundation and the lower zone of the walls dates back to 1713 while the second main phase of the church from its typological construction and its morphological elements seems to be a reconstruction work in place of the older church and dates back to 1836. During the interwar period the church was probably remodeled around 1932 to receive the characteristic classic neo-Byzantine features of today's facades. Serious problems of the wooden structure of the roof and structural damage to the masonry of its sides and to the bell towers of the west side HM installations and maintenance works of the frescoes of the iconostasis and the wood-carved decoration of the church With the proposed project the Church of St. Nicholas will be attributed both to the residents of the area and to the visitors fully functional and safe so that it meets its values as a historical monument and the requirements of its use as a religious site and as an important landmark of the city of Nafplion
