DETERMINATION AND RESTORATION OF SKIATHOS CASTLE AND HOUSEHOLD BUILDINGS IN PHASE B The Castle of Skiathos was founded in the middle of the 14th century by the inhabitants of ancient and Byzantine Skiathos who were forced to move to this place due to pirate raids In 1453 the Castle came under Venetian rule and from 1538 under Ottoman rule it remained until 1829 with a short interruption in 1660 when it was occupied by the Venetians Access to the fortified settlement was through a gate leading to a wooden bridge with stone-built pedestals The area of the settlement was 25 acres of land which is estimated to include around 200 houses The Castle after its abandonment was turned into a ruin from which the pedestals of the bridge and the gate the main paved road of the settlement the churches of Christos Agios Nikolaos and the mosque are preserved, while in a ruined state the churches of Panagia Prekla of Panagia Megalomata and the administration building in contact with the mosque works for the redevelopment of the access path to the Castle, the restoration of the foundations of the bridge and the construction of a new bridge, the restoration of the gate, the restoration of the buildings of the settlement and the regeneration of its paved roads;share on FacebookTwitterLinkedinEmailreport an issue
