Upgrading of the energy footprint of the University of Crete and the National Health Data Centre of GRNET SA

The reduction of greenhouse gas emissions and the annual primary energy consumption of public buildings are strategic objectives both for the University of Crete and for the National Infrastructures for Research and Technology GRNET SA as renamed the National Research and Technology Network GRNET. This project concerns the energy upgrade of the daily operation of the infrastructure operating in the area of responsibility of the University of Crete and includes the implementation of energy upgrading and energy saving interventions in the Student Center building and the building of the Department of Computer Science at the University of Voutes campus as well as in building B of the building complex of White buildings in the facilities of Knossos Renewable Energy Actions for the energy coverage of the aforementioned buildings Actions to promote sustainable mobility to serve the transportation needs of the administrative and educational staff of the University Policies and practices of monitoring measurement and evaluation of the performance of the above actions Addressing the problem of the release of gaseous pollutants and greenhouse gases is in the spirit of the Paris Agreement in force. 4 November 2016 succeeded the Kyoto Protocol for the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions and could be characterized as holistic as the project in particular includes actions1 Reduction of thermal losses of buildings and reduction of consumption2 Monitoring and evaluation of policies and measures for the reduction of thermal losses and reduction of consumption3 Supply through RES of part of the energy needs of the University and the National Health Data Centre operated by GRNET SA in the University building in Voutes4 Use of electric vehicles to serve the transportation needs of administrative and educational staff that will be offered free of charge within the internal road network of the Campus as well as between building units outside the boundaries of the Campus and from and to it
