MONOCAB

The MONOCAB is an innovative monorail vehicle currently in the development stage. In future, MONOCABs will enable the rapid and cost-efficient reactivation of disused railway lines (simultaneous bidirectional operation) as well as the implementation of campus, city centre and factory railways. These small, automated vehicles will be used to implement a demand-driven mobility concept (service on demand). In the MonoCab OWL project, two test vehicles were developed, built and successfully tested. However, the current technological maturity of these vehicles is not sufficient in terms of safety, efficiency, approval and costs to pursue commercial exploitation (product development, marketing and route operation) with limited entrepreneurial risk. This is where the MONOCAB key technologies project comes in. Its aim is to answer the open research questions on the important key technologies for the MONOCAB vehicle concept and thus prepare the vehicle for further development to a higher level of technological maturity. This includes an analysis of traffic potential and demand, safe stabilised driving, lane changing, and accurate and reliable position detection and distance recognition. The corresponding technical modules are to be further developed, implemented, integrated into the existing test vehicles and tested on real road sections.
