As part of the DECARBOWAL Project Portfolio, the CRUCIAL Project Cluster (CiRcUlarity of CO2: Innovation and WALlonie’s pioneering role), aims to reduce Wallonia’s carbon footprint, and more particularly its industrial flagships, through two complementary pathways: the reduction at source of industrial CO2 emissions (including direct capture of CO2 in ambient air) and the development of de-fossilised e-fuels (including their use in combustion units). This project focuses in particular on the capture of CO2 by solid phase adsorption and aims to test the most promising adsorbent materials identified by the academic partners, and in particular by the partner UMons (SORBINNOV project), but on a larger scale (on a pilot scale) and under conditions close to industrial capture conditions (cement plants, lime producers, glassmakers, steelmakers, etc.). The tests will be carried out under the cycling conditions identified as the most advantageous, depending on the type of adsorbent and application. It will also be possible to test the repeated cycling performance of the adsorbents and identify the regeneration options for each of them, which is of paramount importance to ensure reduced operating costs and a reduced environmental footprint. Industrial application prospects will finally be established, in collaboration with academic partners.
