BIOMED-VISION - Biomedical research complex UHasselt at Health Campus Limburg DC

This project is part of the transformation of the Limburg Diepenbeek Campus. The ambition is to develop the campus into a high-performing innovation area that offers space for education, research and activity, but above all stimulates the interaction between these innovation drivers. Driven by a master plan drawn up in 2018 by the province of Limburg, the campus is further developed in a balance between economic acceleration and ecological protection of the valuable Demervallei._x000D_ In every successful innovative campus model, a presence of knowledge institutions is crucial, whereby these knowledge institutions actively use their specialized infrastructure and knowledge to cross-fertilize with companies in an open innovation model. The exchange of expertise between knowledge institutions, on the one hand, and industry and the sector concerned, on the other, is a driving force behind an economically innovative model. International experience shows that the physical proximity of the various actors in a stimulating campus environment is an important asset._x000D_ Part-campus ‘Health Campus Limburg DC’ will become the hub of innovation in healthcare and life sciences by focusing on this helix effect between knowledge institutions, companies, government, healthcare sector and citizens in a stimulating environment. In this context, this project focuses on the development of Hasselt University's biomedical research infrastructure as a knowledge anchor for the innovative environment._x000D_ The project aims to expand the biomedical research building in which UHasselt's biomedical technology platforms can be further expanded. Due to its location near the BioVille business incubator building and the business space to be developed in parallel in the Health Campus Business District, combined with a connected environmental construction, the entire development focuses on cross-fertilisation within innovation in care and life sciences._x000D_ The extensive biomedical research building houses specialised technological platforms in both biotechnological and medical research. The biotechnological platforms focus on biomedical imaging, cellular analysis and data sciences. The medical platforms focus on preventive medicine and digital health. They strengthen the expertise of the Biomedical Research Institute (BIOMED), the Limburg Clinical Research Center (LCRC, in collaboration with the hospitals Jessa and ZOL) and the university MS center (UMSC, in collaboration with the Noorderhart hospital) of Hasselt University. By grouping and strengthening knowledge and expertise in advanced technology platforms and making them accessible to different actors, the campus environment provides shared opportunities for research and development that (young) companies otherwise do not have due to the high investment costs associated with this._x000D_ In this way, ERDF UHasselt stimulates, in further cooperation with its partners and in its role as a civic university, taking responsibility and committing to strong regional development._x000D_
