ORSI aims to exponentially increase its impact on global healthcare by focusing on developing and facilitating innovations in medical technology (MedTech). ORSI will therefore add a new part to its centre of expertise, focusing not on robotic surgery, but on other innovative medical technologies that stem from the strong network that ORSI has developed as a centre of expertise. A number of examples that are already in demand in the current centre are: development of VR glasses to support surgeons in their work, perfusion in the context of medical imaging, 3D printing technology for prostheses, robotics in orthopedics, and so on. By further expanding the centre, problems that hinder research into new technologies or limit interaction and knowledge flows within clusters can be avoided. Over the years, ORSI has built up a strong world reputation within the domain of minimally invasive robotic surgery and has grown into a hotspot in robotic medicine. However, innovation in MedTech is picking up much faster than ever and has great potential to significantly improve the clinical outcomes, efficiency and cost-effectiveness of healthcare segments that require surgical intervention. However, the current centre is not equipped both to further support such technologies and to act as a meeting point for its entire ecosystem. It should also maintain its focus on the minimum invasive robotic technology, thus stimulating and developing the further growing and changing robotic surgery within medicine._x000D_ ORSI will invest in a landmark building and associated equipment with a view to scaling up the institute into a centre of expertise and innovation for innovative medical technology. This centre will provide spaces to support other technological and medical domains (some of which have already been planted at ORSI and cannot continue to grow due to insufficient and incorrect infrastructure) and thus become a MedTech ecosystem. The new building will contribute to the transfer of knowledge necessary to promote the adaptation of technologies in the medical field and thereby strengthen their economic and social valorisation. To make this new window a success, ORSI will leverage the established network of close cooperation between academic institutions, hospitals, start-ups, SMEs, etc. This project will thus contribute to technology transfer, networking, information dissemination and cooperation between enterprises, knowledge institutions, universities and organisations within the Medvia spearhead cluster on digital medicine. In addition, ORSI will create a platform from this ambitious investment project with which research in the domain will be strongly stimulated. For example, ORSI Flanders will help in the further growth of the MedTech and act as an important differentiator for not only minimally invasive surgery but for medicine as a whole._x000D_
