PXL University of Applied Sciences aims to transform 5 campuses for research and education in Limburg into an educational and sustainable ecosystem with state-of-the-art campuses. This vision has been translated into separate master plans that together realise one comprehensive and ambitious plan: Breakthrough PXL. This project is located in the master plan that will be rolled out at the Eleventh Linie Campus in Hasselt. In its entirety, this master plan was favorably assessed by SALKTurbo, the operation around the economic policy plan of the province of Limburg. As a result, as well as the launch of ERDF Flanders 2021-2027, this master plan was split into several projects. One of these well-defined projects is entirely dedicated to strengthening the research and innovation capacity in Limburg and, by extension, Flanders: the PXL BusinessHUB. Specifically, the PXL BusinessHUB project focuses on the realization of an infrastructure for co-creation, knowledge dissemination and the creation and crystallization of future-proof business models that take the ecosystem and the already existing collaboration between PXL Research researchers and the business world to a higher level. The content guideline of the BusinessHUB is digitization, sustainable entrepreneurship and open innovation. The BusinessHUB will become the location where Limburg companies, researchers, students, sector organisations and other research organisations can meet and set up concrete collaborations in order to enable knowledge valorisation, co-creation and accelerated innovation of digital and sustainable solutions. In doing so, PXL University of Applied Sciences aims to make its contribution to achieving a tangible acceleration in the digital and sustainable transition of the Limburg and Flemish economies. In this sense and through the realization of PXL BusinessHUB, cooperation with the business community will increase by 20%. For the realization of this ambitious project, the existing building B of campus Elfde Linie (where the Departments PXL-Business and PXL-Digital already have their base) will be radically renovated, expanded and furnished. In addition, this (substantively) will no longer be a stand-alone building, but will to a large extent be linked to existing initiates such as the Corda Campus. To this end, the infrastructure will have a multifunctional courtyard, Digital Experience Labs (DELs) and spaces where spontaneous interactions and inspiration sessions are possible. Through this project, the entire site of the campus will also function as a living lab for circular, nature-inclusive and energy-positive (re)building. The future that PXL University of Applied Sciences (and its associated partners) has in mind is one where everyone - from student and researcher to company, government and non-profit - will have the opportunity to get to know, experience and solve problems in a digitalised and more sustainable future, to realise new innovations, to become more competitive and to generate more jobs. The project presented in this application form is the result of an extensive preparatory process and has already convinced various stakeholders within a quadruple helix model – companies, employers’ organisations, public actors, citizens, etc.
