UHasselt, imec and Soltech want to position themselves as European main players in the development of the next generation of integrated photovoltaic (PV) cells and modules. This will be based on tandem solar cells in which various PV technologies are stacked to combine even more efficient sunlight into electricity. By building the necessary additional infrastructure at the Thor site in Genk, the IN2PV project with SALKturbo's green label aims to achieve two important objectives:_x000D_ * First: UHasselt and Soltech will set up a demonstration room for integrated PV (IPV) in an open test field and also on and around the new Soltech building where existing Si solar cells but also the new cell and module technologies and tandem technology from the second objective can be validated in various structures with IPV applications in infrastructure, buildings and AGRI-PV as a service. The partners include tandem modules in a realistic scale canopy, vertical wall or AGRI-PV setup, but also BIPV demos in façades and as shadow elements on and around buildings. Companies will be invited via communication from EnergyVille, imo-imomec and Soltech to design, realize and install these demonstrators in co-creation, whereby IN2PV's project partners offer their services at market-based rates. From building custom prototype modules by Soltech and the associated validation in a (B)IPV demo with UHasselt to testing a business case with support for the E-yield model of imec... Companies will also be able to have the necessary access to the EnergyVille infrastructure to work together on these new challenges, so that there can really be talk of an open innovation platform that can serve the entire value chain. _x000D_ * Second: increase the production capacity of perovskite and CIGS thin film solar cells through investments in a vaporization plant and sputtering plant for higher throughputs. The relevance of these processes has already been demonstrated on a lab scale in EnergyVille up to 30 x 30 cm2. With these investments, we can significantly increase reproducibility and process efficiency, by enabling more automation on large dimensions. This approach allows all partners together with our customers from the region to produce larger modules with these new materials on a relevant scale for new integrated applications. We will work with local product developers and producers. After all, the reliability of the process is extremely important for real-life demonstrators and for industrial applications. With this equipment we can therefore implement developments with suppliers of new materials up to and including contract research for integrated applications in function of end users._x000D_ IN2PV will also make this infrastructure available to EnergyVille and the open Thor Living Lab. This will be the breeding ground for further collaboration with the industry to refine specifications, develop validation and expand the product portfolio and know-how with this new PV generation. IN2PV is therefore bringing more energy companies to Thorpark to work together on IPV products of the future._x000D_
