Pedestrian-cycle route the Bourg d'Urrugne-quartier d'Olhette

The Municipality of Urrugne has made soft mobility one of the priority axes of its mandate. It implements projects to meet the fundamental challenge of Sustainable Development, in order to improve the living conditions of the current and future population. This project is a response to the concern for the enhancement and preservation of the environment and biodiversity, themes on which the municipality of Urrugne is strongly committed because it has a remarkable natural heritage. Changing society is above all about changing practices. The creation of cycling infrastructure is the essential basis for the development of cycling. It is now imperative to propose a network of adapted infrastructure to encourage a change in behaviour. These infrastructures will be complemented by services to users to sustain the practice. This network will eventually make it possible to connect the districts with each other, and also to create soft mobility links with neighbouring municipalities. These facilities contribute to the attractiveness of the highly touristic territory of the South Basque Country, and the project goes hand in hand with other projects such as the development of the Basque cornice or the enhancement of natural areas, in particular the Rhûne massif. The population has been closely associated with this Le Bourg-Olhette route project, particularly as regards the choice of route, and given the interest shown in the project, there is every reason to believe that this route will have a great deal of traffic both in its ‘urban’ part and in its more ‘natural’ part. Finally, the very qualitative nature of the route must be emphasised: it is a very secure route, very landscaped, well signposted, made with high-quality materials.
