The area of Aradippou is located in the south of Cyprus, a short distance from Larnaca International Airport. Aradippou developed rapidly after the Turkish Invasion in 1974, where in 1986 it was declared a Municipality and since then it has developed significantly. Today Aradippou is a focal point in the national road network of the island and is the second largest municipality of Cyprus in land area with 42,982 square government acres. The population of Aradippou today reaches about 20,000 inhabitants. With regard to the Municipality of Aradippou, important projects have been planned and implemented with a view to the development of the area and the best possible service to the citizens (e.g. parks, upgrading of roads and roads, etc.). Important projects implemented for the Municipality are the projects aimed at protecting the environment and transforming Aradippou into a green city. Important is the European Project EcoRouts (Interreg V-A Greece-Cyprus 2014-2020) as well as the photovoltaic panels installed in the Town Hall to meet the energy needs of the building. The Municipality of Aradippou is planning more important projects in order to take steps towards a green city. The implementation of the project is considered necessary taking into account the following reasons: The Municipality of Aradippou is responsible for covering the costs related to the lighting of the road network that falls within the boundaries of Aradippou. Every year, it bears significant costs for the operation of the road network as well as the buildings owned by the Municipality of Aradippou (e.g. City Hall, Preserved buildings) in relation mainly to lighting. This fact is intensified by the recent reform of the Local Government and the creation of the new Municipality of Aradippou, which now includes the Municipal Departments of Kellia and Troulla. On the basis of the reform, the cost of covering the lighting of the road network increases as the coverage of the lighting costs of the road network now includes the road network that is part of the boundaries of the communities of Kellia and Troulla. Therefore, the Municipality of Aradippou is called upon to implement important actions in relation to the protection of the environment, taking into account national and European objectives that have been set. An indicative important objective is the National Energy and Climate Plan for 2030 prepared on the basis of Directive (EU) 2018/2001 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 11 December 2018 on the promotion of the use of energy from renewable energy sources (RES). Based on the National Plan, Cyprus has set a target of increasing the share of Renewable Energy Sources (RES) in gross final energy consumption to at least 23% by 2030. This percentage constitutes the national contribution for the achievement of the collective mandatory target of the European Union for a share of RES of 32% in the gross final consumption of energy in the EU in 2030. Taking into account the above, the Municipality of Aradippou is implementing the project entitled “Construction of a photovoltaic park with a capacity of 2.96 MW in the Municipality of Aradippou”. This project concerns the construction of a photovoltaic park with a capacity of 2.96MW located in the area of Melissia in Aradippou, with an area of 46,866 square meters. The park is constructed within a state plot (which has been leased to the Municipality of Aradippou for 33 years) and is 3.6 km from the residential core of the Municipality of Aradippou and 2.3 km from the residential core of the community of Kalo Chorio. Access to the plot where the park is created is via the A3 motorway and the secondary road network of the area. The photovoltaic park, with a capacity of 2.96MW, consists of ≈5200 high-efficiency photovoltaic panels. The energy produced by the photovoltaic park will be used to meet the energy needs of the Municipality and in particular the energy needs arising for street lighting in the municipal boundaries of the Municipality of Aradippou (apartment of Aradippou, Kellia and Troulla). This investment contributes significantly to the efforts of the Municipality, but also of the country, in terms of the green transition and the reduction of dependence on energy produced from fossil fuels. It also contributes to the achievement of the goal of decarbonisation. With its creation, Aradippou officially becomes the first Municipality of Cyprus to acquire its own photovoltaic park, continuing the rapid and steady development of recent years, by investing in an important project that will give the city significant environmental and economic "breath". The aim of this project is to make Aradippou a model for green development, showing the way of the future and investing in the production of energy from renewable sources to finance the energy needs of the Municipality in matters of street lighting. For the implementation of the project, the tender entitled "Tender for the constructi
