The project of which the Cyprus Paraplegics Organisation is the Beneficiary aims to train and employ people to provide additional support and care to people with paraplegia and quadriplegia (as a result of spinal cord injury) who are members of the Cyprus Paraplegics Organisation. At the same time, the project provides, in a pilot phase, since April 2022, support and care to people with myopathy, members of the Cyprus Myopathic Association, in cooperation with the Cyprus Myopathic Association. The training consists of theoretical education and practical training. Educational training programmes are designed in cooperation with professional health and care specialists. Several of the programmes are submitted and implemented through the mechanism of the Human Resource Development Authority. The training is offered free of charge to the employees and the courses are attended as part of their work. Among the main objectives of the project is the promotion of equal opportunities for persons with disabilities and persons at high risk of social exclusion and poverty, as it facilitates their participation in activities, their access to social services, thus ensuring their social cohesion and integration. Also, through the implementation of the project, the further development of the caregiver profession for people with severe disabilities in our country is promoted.
