The project “Reconstruction of the Outer Perimeter Trench Arc - Phases A2.2 & A2.3, hereinafter referred to as the project, concerns a “bridge project” and is the continuation of the project entitled: ‘Regeneration of an external perimeter arc of a moat’, which was co-financed under the 2014-2020 programming period. The construction part of the project includes (a) the completion of the financial object of Phase A2.2 (concerning final bill payment and booking return balance expected to be made in 2025/ 1st Semester), (b) the completion of the physical and financial object of Phase A2.3 (concerning provisional acceptance in September 2024 and payments after 01/01/24) , (c) additional works of the construction of A2.3 starting and completing them in 2025/ 1st Semester. The overall project of the Regeneration of the Outer Perimeter Arc of the Trench includes the upgrading of the built environment and infrastructure from the point of the descent ramp of Stasinos Avenue to the D’Avila Trench up to the confluence of Stasinos Avenue with Archbishop Makarios II, in order to make the area more attractive for residents and visitors. The movement of pedestrians in public space was designed based on the principles of sustainable mobility, in the context of improving mobility in the urban area of Nicosia. The renovation of the perimeter streets, sidewalks and green spaces, which frame the Venetian walls, also aim to connect the Old Town with the New, to highlight the Monument as the most important attraction of the city and the space as a whole as a Center of the social and recreational life of the city, in the role of "Molos-seafront" for the city of Nicosia. The physical object of Phase A2. 2 implemented under the 2014-2020 programming period concerned the redevelopment of the adjacent area towards Stasinou Avenue, i.e. the space between the descent ramp towards the D’Avila Trench and the Doros Loizou bridge, at Road level (along Stasinou Avenue at the northern boundary) and at Trench level. The works included the existing inclined surface up to the open stone rainwater channel at the level of the Trench.Phase A2.3 includes the regeneration of the northern sidewalk of Stasinou Avenue from its junction with Kaniggos Street (or Doros Loizou Bridge) to Archbishop Makarios II. In the Western part of the project, the redevelopment extends to the slopes of the Trench and to a part of the Trench under the Constanza Bastion. At the level of the Trench the regeneration includes: a pedestrian walk path, the creation of a two-way cycle path following the cycle path that runs through the Trench, from the Eleftherias Square project, under the Kanigos bridge and continues at garden level, to the junction of Stasinou Avenue with Archbishop Makarios II Square (opening of Kolokasis), restoration, maintenance of the existing stone drainage and extension of the floodplain to deal with flooding phenomena, an elevator made of metal/glass construction from the level of the Trench to the level of the pavement, staging points with sitting areas, remediation of the existing planting and enrichment with new mainly low planting using endemic plants. At street level, the northern sidewalk initially extends as a wooden path (deck) on a light construction with pilings towards the slopes of the Trench and continues to the boundaries of the "garden of Agios Antonios" with alternating configurations of a wooden deck-type path on concrete foundation beams, and cast/pebble floors on concrete substrates. Along the route, access to the level of the Trench is made by the lift, with 3 scales of concrete or light metal / wood construction and at the connection point of the two levels, with a road made of soft materials, pedestrians and emergency vehicles.All the way, stopping points are created and viewing the monument of the Venetian walls with living rooms / benches.Water elements are constructed in the area (water curtains / fountains) along the route.Existing monuments or busts at the boundaries of the project area, are placed in new places with a new configuration.Finally, a bicycle rental station of the Municipality of Nicosia and a bicycle parking space are formed. Throughout the redevelopment work is carried out: complete landscaping of the site with remediation of the existing greenery, increase of high and low vegetation, and configuration of green basins, new modern lighting of the site with energy-saving LED lamp technology, upgrading of EAC utilities, WBL, WBL, telecommunications and all infrastructure such as irrigation, rainwater management system, infrastructure / smart city equipment. 13/08/24. The signing of the supplementary agreement, commencement and completion of the works will take place in 2025/first semester.
