The project concerns the complete redevelopment of Konstantinos Palaiologos Avenue on the Venetian walls, from Eleftherias Square in the West to Archbishop Makarios II Avenue in the West East, with a total redevelopment area of 11,300 m2. The purpose of the intervention / action is the revitalization of the urban environment and the creation of an attractive and accessible space for all, which improves the conditions for economic activities. Individual objectives are to improve vehicle traffic and the safe movement of both vehicles, cyclists, as well as – and in particular – pedestrians and persons with disabilities (PWD). With the complete redevelopment, the geometric standards for road construction and the road markings provided for by the competent department of Public Works can be correctly applied in their entirety. More specifically, the new design proposes: CIRCULATION Reduce the 60 parking spaces along the road by about half, organized and based on standards. Organization of parking spaces for people with disabilities, taxis, bicycles and bicycles, with electric charging points. Abolition of bus parking on the Doros Loizou bridge. Creation of a network of cycle paths and cycle lanes. Creation of 5 new pedestrian and bicycle crossings and redesign of the 5 existing ones. Provisions for the installation of pop-up piles for the possibility of controlled access in the future, to parts of the project for their operation as pedestrian streets. For the same purpose, traffic zones for vehicles and pedestrians are designed almost in their entirety at the same level. New road markings, horizontal and vertical, are applied throughout the project. PUBLIC USE SERVICES AND ENVIRONMENTAL PLANNING Installation of new networks of utilities, with complete undergrounding: Fire Brigade, EAC, Telecommunications Providers. Installation of a new underground rainwater collection and removal system. Installation of new street lighting with new LED-type ‘smart’ low-power lamps. Implementation of the smart city systems of the Municipality of Nicosia Maintenance of existing large trees and increase of planting and shading, with new plantings of large trees and low vegetation, with the introduction of water elements to reduce temperature. New automatic irrigation system for all plantings in the regeneration area. Two new bus shelters with smart information systems, with energy autonomy through the installation of photovoltaic panels. Installation of new urban equipment with underground household waste and recycling bins, shading pergolas, benches, road barriers (bollards), bicycle stalls, trash baskets for pedestrians / dogs, etc. Application of new flooring materials, road surfaces, parking spaces, bicycle paths and sidewalks / squares, in a distinct way and organization. Provision is made for the embellishment of the facades throughout the height of the buildings adjacent to K. Palaiologos Avenue, throughout the length of the project.
