This project is part of the wider program "Regeneration of the Outer Perimeter Trench Arc" and comes as a natural continuation and completion of the previous construction phases (A2.1, A2.2 and A2.3), the implementation of which began in the programming period 2014-2020 and were completed in the current period 2021-2027. Phase A2.4 focuses on the total regeneration of the Garden of Agios Antonios, which is in the immediate vicinity of most of Phase A2.3, thus creating a single and coherent urban intervention.The project design gives integrated solutions to the issues of safe and comfortable accessibility for cyclists, pedestrians and people with disabilities, while at the same time it upgrades aesthetically and functionally the space to offer high quality recreation and social interaction to all citizens in an improved natural and urban environment. The total area of the project amounts to approximately 8,000 m2.The main interventions include:Full landscape design of the site, with sanitation, reinforcement and enrichment of the existing planting and irrigation.New playground of modern specifications, with full equipment of toys.New municipal sanitary spaces, designed for comfort and hygiene.Bicycle and wheeled media track, suitable for all ages.New cafeteria building Canteen to serve the Playground and the bicycle track.Bicycle parking spaces to enhance micromobility.Water elements and fountains to improve the microclimate and aesthetics.Urban equipment (benches, bicycle stalls, trunks, waste bins, recycling bins, dog waste bins, fountains etc.).Rainwater management with design and construction of a new culvert.Two-way service road for motor vehicles, from Makarios II Square to the level of the trench.Infrastructures for safe monitoring of trainings within the trench.New lighting system throughout the project.Upgrading utilities infrastructure and integration of Wi-Fi network within the Smart City program.Today, the traffic of the site is estimated at about 15 people per day. With the completion of the renovation and the inclusion of new functions, equipment and events, it is estimated that traffic will increase significantly, reaching 150–200 people per day and multiples during thematic or cultural events.The upgraded Agios Antonios Garden will once again become a local reference point for the inhabitants of the area inside and outside the Walls, reviving its historical role as a place of recreation, social interaction and cultural activity.
