BAC-THERA - Label of Excellence Objective 2024

The BAC-THERA project aims to combat the antibiotic resistance of the bacterium Pseudomonas aeruginosa. The aim is to exploit post-translational modifications (PTMs) of proteins as targets of an anti-virulence strategy. The researchers will identify TMPs on virulence factors and evaluate their role in the virulence of P. aeruginosa. Modified amino acids of interest will be used to develop monoclonal antibodies. These antibodies could lead to new anti-virulence treatments independent of antibiotic sensitivity. The advanced knowledge acquired through the BAC-THERA project will be used to prepare for the submission of an ERC Advanced Grant in 2027. Before that, the project leader plans to apply for Senior status at the IUF in 2026, in particular to support the application for the ERC Advanced Grant, recognition within national and international networks being a major point for the ERC.
