The aim of this project is to carry out industrial research and experimental development work, which will result in the development of an intelligent system of supporting technology for the operation of shaft furnaces operating in countercurrent, based on mathematical models describing the two-dimensional development of thermal and chemical processes. As a result of the work carried out, the shape of a set of measuring devices necessary to implement and implement the developed system will be defined, allowing, among others, the analysis of temperatures, gas composition or correctness of distribution of input materials in the kiln throat. The overall implementation of the project will significantly improve the efficiency of indirect reductions in the kiln shaft, resulting in reduced fuel consumption and the resulting reduction of CO2 emissions. This will minimise the impact of the process on the environment. The new shape of the EU ETS poses a serious threat to the competitiveness of European steel industry, including steelworks located in Poland. Polish iron metallurgy is based on iron materials from eastern directions and domestic fuels, employing several thousand people throughout the country. The proposed solution is an opportunity to maintain the competitiveness of the Polish metallurgical sector and join the world’s leading technology in the industry. The beneficiaries of the project will be the metallurgical sector as well as society and the national economy.
