Development of industrial construction of carbonate fuel cells and ceramic electrolysers that allow integration into power-to-gas energy installations

Reference number of the aid programme: SA.41471(2015/X) Purpose of public aid: Article 25 of EC Regulation No 651/2014 of 17 June 2014 declaring certain types of aid compatible with the internal market in the application of Articles 107 and 108 of the Treaty (OJ L. I'm sorry. EU L 187/1 of 26.06.2014). The aim of the project is to improve the process of energy storage in the form of a chemical (natural gas substitute). SNG), which aims to improve the operational performance of the target installation, mainly through higher efficiency of high-temperature electrolysis (lower energy inputs due to the lack of evaporation of water in the electrolyser) and the use of carbonate fuel cells for CO2 capture from the exhaust gas, which does not require energy capture from the power plant (e.g. in the form of water vapour taken from the turbine output). In addition, both introduced innovations work on the direct current and in a similar temperature range, which gives them the possibility of thermal and electrical integration. In particular, the project will contribute to reduced energy intensity (electricity and heat capacity) per unit of manufactured SNG. A significant reduction in investment costs will be achieved through the use of high-temperature technologies where expensive catalysts (Ni vs Pt) are not required. The reduction in operating costs will be achieved through this higher energy efficiency and lack of elements subject to frequent exchanges (e.g. electrolyte in KOH/NaOH electrolyser).
