The project concerns the globally innovative CNC lathe for accurate and high-performance regeneration of rolling outlines of rail wheelsets in an intelligent way. It will be a significant support for the regeneration process with a digital process model and intelligent procedures, and a significant direct measurement on the lathe, flattening and flaws of wheel surfaces, as well as monitoring wear and crushing of cutting plates with developed measuring devices. The project involves industrial research and development, which will allow the construction of a prototype of a new lathe, the construction and verification of optic-laser and capacitive measuring systems, a machine error monitoring system and the regeneration process, as well as the development of a digital model of these errors by which the CNC system will generate a tool path in real time or almost real time, including interference compensation, using intelligent procedures. The development of the digital model will be based on industrial research and will include experimental and numerical analysis of the operational, thermal and static properties of lathes. This will make it possible to improve the identification of intelligent lathe errors in operating conditions and their compensation and improvement of control axles. This will be complemented by software applications that optimise the monitoring and machining process in an intelligent way to achieve high accuracy and short time of the outline regeneration cycle, environmental friendliness and increase the life cycle of wheelsets.
