The aim of the project is to develop conceptual, design and test tests of a new type of intelligent road signs that will prevent the most common collisions on high-speed roads resulting from the rapid accumulation of vehicles in case of the need for rapid braking. The project will develop a range of products, including intelligent standing, hanging and mobile signs, displaying dynamically updated recommended driving speed, determined automatically, thanks to the incorporation into the road sign of an electronic module enabling multimodal traffic conditions measurement (visual, acoustic and weather conditions analysis). Under typical conditions of use, the intelligent character will communicate the speed calculated in conjunction with the information received in a row of similar characters located along a stretch of the high-speed road, communicating with each other via a wireless network or optionally set up in a remotely managed manner. Its development requires solving a number of research and technological problems, such as: efficient and weather-dependent traffic analysis based on a simultaneous analysis of several ways of data representation, a method of calculating the speed gradient for different types of traffic situations and topology, the creation of a platform for self-organising and reliable wireless connections, and carrying out on an appropriate scale test test of prototypes, which will lead to the development of products that increase road safety, for which there is market demand around the world.
