The aim of the project is to increase the population benefiting from an improved municipal waste water treatment system, ensuring increased biogen removal. This will be achieved by completing the construction of the sewage system and improving the drainage of the town of Brzozowo, part of the Chełmnia agglomeration. The implementation of the section will thus enable the fulfilment of accession obligations in the area of waste water management and will contribute to the protection and conservation of the ecological status of the Baltic waters and to the prevention of pollution of surface water in Poland. Major investment needs remain in place to fulfil the obligations under Directive 91/271/EEC on urban waste water treatment (hereinafter: director of sewage.) In addition to the area pollution from agriculture, the municipal sector is an important source of biogenic substances that pose a threat to the quality of surface waters, including the Baltic Sea and eutrophication. It is necessary to complete the implementation of the priority investments provided for in the National Urban Waste Treatment Programme (CWP).
