The project is aimed at activities of the nature of good practices, connected with comprehensive conservation of bison bonasus in-situ bison (existing free herds Bialowieskie, Knyszyńskie, Boreckie, Bieszczadzkie, Poligon Drawski, Augustowskie), in the Project a new herd releasing Roma – effect of long-term work and herd in Nd. Janów Lubelski and ex-situ – care of existing homesteads: Białowieża (BPN), Kobiór, Niepołomice, Gołuchów, Muczne, in the Project new populations in captivity: educational homestead Supraśl, educational homestead Lidzbark. The project covers 90 % of the national free population of this species and 5 key breeding grounds. In addition, for the stability of the species, he plans to increase the area of free herds by a further 2 posts and reduce the tourist pressure on its places by creating 2 new educational homesteads. Most of the tasks planned to carry out concern the active conservation of the species. The project will be implemented in 8 voivodships. The overarching goal of the Project is to ensure the welfare of the population through the implementation of tasks enshrined in the PZO for this species, such as: management of the species population by: ongoing monitoring of the number and health status of animals, handling of free herds, including prevention and veterinary care, mitigation of conflict situations related to the presence of bison, including meadow lease on the outskirts of BPN and educating the public in dealing with animals encountered and farmers on ways to prevent damage. Improving public reception of bison by organising conferences, distributing educational materials, running a website and preparing an educational path, planting information boards, maintaining feeding sites – organising and disinfecting feeding sites, removing uneatted feed and faeces, disinfection of places where the concentration of animals was.
