European Commission Topic

Improving intermodal transport in Poland by connecting container terminals on the Baltic coast and distribution terminals in southern Poland with a transport axis connecting Western Europe with CIS countries and China.

The object of the Project is the purchase of the following assets: — Four electric locomotives; — Four sets (sets) of wagons, each consisting of 21 wagons (16 wagons 80' and 5 wagons 90') for container transport (total 91 wagons – 80'): 64 pcs + 6 spare units and 90': 20 pcs + 1 reserve). The implementation of the Project will allow the expansion of the Company’s activities and offer current and future customers solutions tailored to the intermodal market in Poland and will affect the development of rail intermodal transport in Poland. The project will be located in the Silesian Voivodship, in Zabrze, at the headquarters of DB Cargo Polska S.A. The project will take place in the years 2020-2022 and will significantly contribute to the development of intermodal transport and the reduction of environmentally harmful road transport for rail transport. The rolling stock purchased under the Project will operate mainly the following nodes of the intermodal transport network of DB Cargo Polska S.A.: Gdańsk (Trójmiasto), Szczecin with direct rail connections towards Katowice, Wrocław and Poznań. Carrying out transports from nearby terminals, respectively: Sławków, Kąty Wrocławskie and Swarzędz. In addition, a transport connection with the Czech Republic is also planned, which has also been included in the core network through the connection to Ostrava. The transport solution built by the Company assumes having a hub point in the vicinity of Poznań, where a stream of cargo from the above-mentioned relationships could achieve synergy with current container transports within the east-west corridor.
