Chronicle@ – National Repository of Science and Culture Objects

The aim of this project is to make available the resources of Polish national heritage in the field of science, culture and administration by presenting them in the form of digital resources of scientific, historical and cultural value, using a modern IT system designed and built. In Poland, there is no single access point to key public resources in the fields of science, culture and administration. Currently, thanks to programmes such as Culture+, many objects, e.g. museums, archives, research results, audiovisual objects, photographs or books have been digitised and made available in order to popularise them, increase their availability and re-use. However, these resources are made available on many portals, creating numerous island access points, which makes it very difficult, including comprehensive searches for interesting resources. Moreover, these programmes do not take account to a significant extent of administrative documents (e.g. from separate archives, urban archives, etc., including documentation relating to functioning public and government administration offices). The KRONIK@ project aims to harmonise all activities related to the digitisation, storage and sharing of resources. It is to introduce uniform standards for the management of digital resources. The project will also result in securing valuable resources against destruction or disappearance. Many of them are unique, sought by enthusiasts and researchers of science and culture at home and abroad.
