The aim of the project is to digitise and make available on the Internet documents held by the National Heritage Institute concerning all historical objects entered in the National Register of Monuments (removable monuments and archaeological sites) as well as records of cemeteries and war graves collected in the Provincial Offices and made available to the NID for digitisation and presentation on access portals. The digitisation plan for this project includes 697 984 pieces of documents. The project’s product will be not only document scans, but also metadata created with them and digital representation of objects on the map obtained through the process of digitisation of vectorisation. As a result of the digitisation, an extensive data base will be created on historic sites, graves and war cemeteries, as well as an IT system for data collection and dissemination. Information and promotion of the project’s products are also planned. Information about historic buildings, graves and war cemeteries will be made available through the NID-controlled portals www.zabytek.pl and, whose technical parameters and functionalities will be expanded within the project. Thanks to digitisation and the availability of the resource constituting Poland’s cultural heritage, access to it will be greatly facilitated for the general public. It will be possible to make extensive use of it for scientific purposes, for social research, cultural tourism activities and business activities in selected industries. Open access to information will also be provided to entities that are directly involved in the protection and care of monuments or cultural sites for statutory purposes, e.g. promotion of culture. The creation of a digital version of data and information on cultural resources will ensure their protection and sustainability over time.
