Business Registers Interconnection System (BRIS)

The aim of the Business Registers Interconnection System (BRIS) project is to make it easier for entrepreneurs and citizens to access up-to-date and reliable information about companies. The scope of the project work results from the obligation for EU Member States to implement Directive 2012/17/EU of the European Parliament and of the Council of 13 June 2012 amending Council Directive 89/666/EEC and Directives 2005/56/EC and 2009/101/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council as regards the interconnection of central registers, commercial registers and company registers. The Directive requires the integration of business registers of EU and EEA Member States with the Central European Platform (CPE), which serves as an integral part of the system. The European electronic access point, which is the e-Justice portal, will provide access to business information. The main objective of the project will be achieved through the following specific objectives: 1. The integration of the National Court Register (NRS) with other registers of EU Member States and the European Economic Area (EEA), enabling the exchange of information on companies between the registers of those countries, and access to up-to-date information and documents collected in the registries of other EU and EEA Member States and adapting the NRSs in order to implement the obligations relating to integration into the NRS in the framework of BRIS; 2. Adapt the rules governing the operation of the National Court Register in order to allow access to up-to-date and reliable information on companies and branches of foreign companies and to enable the exchange of information between the registers of EU and EEA Member States.
