The project involves the implementation of a program in the field of primary prevention and early detection of head and neck cancers in the Wielkopolska, Lubuskie and Dolnośląskie voivodships, in the period 07.2017-12.2020. The applicant and its partners are highly specialised units with high scientific potential, ensuring reliable and highest quality development and implementation of project assumptions, conducting educational activities and monitoring its clinical outcomes. The project’s assumptions are multitrack. Health education activities are a priority. Raising public health awareness, especially with regard to the early symptoms of head and neck cancer and the risk factors for their development, increases the chances of detecting them at an early stage, thus completely curing and shaping health-protection behaviours. The project involves cooperation between a highly specialised centre and smaller hospitals, GPs and AOS doctors, which prevents the fragmentation of patient care. Improving knowledge of head and neck cancer among health professionals, especially those related to GP and facilitating contact with a specialist laryngologist (possibility of quick consultation without referral) will form the basis for a well-functioning system of preventive examinations (from education, early detection of cancer, deep diagnostics, emotional support, to refer the patient to a competent centre for treatment). Ultimately, the project will reduce the number of head and neck cancers, increase the proportion of head and neck cancers detected in the early stages, improve survival rates in this group of patients, and its social and economic effect remains.
