Making local natural resources available for tourist purposes through the construction of the Osiek -Prince Village bicycle path located in the NATURA 2000 area

The object of the planned project is the construction of 4.68 km of bicycle path on the Osiek – Prince Village route. The main objective of the project is to make local natural resources available for tourism and to improve biodiversity protection. One of the specific objectives is to adapt the area to active recreation for residents of Żmigród commune and promote elements of natural education. The need to implement the project stems from the need to protect existing nature, meet the needs of residents in terms of creating a recreational area and improving the tourist attractiveness of the region. The investment will run along the former narrow gauge railway route. The trail runs entirely through the “Baryczy Valley” Landscape Park and NATURA 2000 Areas (OSO – “Baryczy Valley” and “Ostojanad Barycza” SOO). These areas are valuable natural areas, rich in tourist attractions and interesting places in terms of landscape. The area of the commune of Żmigród is one of the most valuable areas in Europe in terms of ornithological terms – there are breeding sites for wild geese and ducks, herons, cranes and many other species of birds. You can also find an eagle protected by a black stork or an eagle. The implementation of the investment is intended to allow safe penetration of the terrain by users, ensure rest and increase environmental awareness in relation to existing natural resources. The construction of bicycle paths is also a number of social and economic effects. The social effects are above all greater integration of the local community and promotion of health and the development of an active lifestyle, while the economic effects are mainly the direct development of accommodation and catering facilities and increasing the attractiveness of new investments. The construction of bicycle paths will indirectly affect environmental protection, as residents will have an alternative choice for driving.
