ERG (European Region of Gastronomy)

The objective of the Government’s Local Food Programme is to strengthen cooperation between local food operators and to improve the development of the sector. Local food refers in particular to local food that contributes to the local economy, employment and food culture in the region. In line with the objectives of the Local Food Programme, the main goal of the centenary development work is to build and implement the European Region of Gastronomy, Kuopio Region 2020 centenary programme in cooperation with food, tourism and creative industries. The focus is on gastronomy, which means knowing and preparing foods made from first-class raw materials. This creates an overall experience in which the stories and visuals of the area are strongly present. The development work is based on the commitment of the above-mentioned areas to the region’s development work, new operating models and a network-based approach. Only the interfaces of the domains will generate new innovations and, at best, new innovations. By being able to link food, hospitality, tourism, culture, health and sustainable development, we can support economic, cultural, social and environmental development in the regions. At the heart of the project is the promotion of local economy, employment and food culture. Sme companies are at the centre of the centenary’s programme and activities. The longer-term goal is to build continuity in the development of responsible food tourism. Raising the gastronomic level of the region contributes to this development.
