The Valmis team of UMR PAM is a laboratory of Microbiology that studies at the molecular, cellular and physiological level the stress response of microorganisms (yeasts and bacteria) in relation to their environments and the phenomena of interaction between cells. The research leads to an understanding of the mechanisms involved but also to industrial collaborations in the fields of wine and agri-food in the wider sense. The Valmis team will make available its technical and scientific know-how to formulate in an innovative way new strains belonging to the company Nexidia, in order to study the immunomodulatory effects of probiotic bacteria until the identification and characterisation of the active ingredients (carried by the extracellular vesicles). Another major objective of the project is to determine the role of membrane vesicles, released naturally by probiotic bacteria, in molecular interaction with host cells resulting in immunomodulation and a health effect. The project to be developed in collaboration with Nexidia will determine whether a single strain can provide both anti-pathogenic and immunomodulating properties or whether it is necessary to formulate these strains as a combination of several strains in order to combine their beneficial effects.
